The O-jib-wa Indian Medicine Company was founded in 1915 by
Wilfred T. (Doc) Shafe. The company was based on the sale of a
located at 2701 S. Saginaw Street. Some people still remember
the totem pole that stood in front of the store for many years.
In 1939 Wilfred Shafe passed away, leaving the company to his
son Kenneth W. Shafe. The son ran it until 1958, when he
retired and sold the business to Kenneth G. Morrish, an
employee since the late 1930s. Morrish introduced vitamins to
the business when he took over, and relocated it to Court
Street. The bitters were discontinued around 1983 for various
reasons, and the company was renamed the O-jib-wa Vitamin
Company.
Morrish retired in 1987, and sold the business to Clifford C.
Ferrier, an employee since 1951. In 1987 his son Jim started
working for his father. In 1994, Jim's wife Mellicha K. Ferrier
joined in and they formed a partnership. We incorporated in
1995 and expanded into foods. We relocated to 1295 S. Center
Rd. in 2001 and expanded more into healthy and organic foods
as well as specialty foods. We started using the name Wild
Farm Foods in 2007 to help show we are not just a supplement
store anymore.
In January, 2009 we relocated to 2480 S. Center Rd. in Burton
and now have twice the space with 4800 square feet of store
including a deli and organic produce.
